The most attractive feature of the fuzzy theory to biological science resea
rchers is the simplicity of fuzzy mathematical expression, which is extreme
ly useful for reasoning the problem and for controlling the process in biol
ogical areas where precise mathematical models can hardly be developed. In
this review, recent progress of fuzzy theory in biomedical science is illus
trated in four areas: device control, biological control, classification an
d pattern recognition, and prediction and association.
