We present a case report of a 2-year-old child with a hypopharyngeal strict
ure secondary to caustic soda ingestion. We discuss the initial and long-te
rm management of caustic soda ingestion. In this case the hypopharynx was s
uccessfully reconstructed using a pedicled pectoralis major flap. We demons
trate the versatility of this flap, which is traditionally known for its us
e in adult head and neck surgery. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. Al
