Ap. Wang et al., Dynamic analysis of a tall building with a tuned-mass-damper device subjected to earthquake excitations, J SOUND VIB, 244(1), 2001, pp. 123-136
In this paper, Hamilton's principle and finite element method are employed
to formulate the new dynamic equation of a tall building subjected to earth
quake excitations. A tuned-mass-damper (TMD) system is installed at the top
to absorb the earthquake-induced vibrations. First, the non-linear governi
ng equations in the axial and transverse directions are obtained by the Eul
er-beam theory. Secondly, the simple-flexure beam model is employed to redu
ce the system as a linear one. The energetic analyses of these two beam the
ories are provided. It is found that the rigid-body motion of the TMD and t
he transversal vibrations of the tall building are coupled and energy is tr
ansfered between them. Finally, the effects of several parameters on the ri
gid-body motion and transversal vibrations are presented and discussed. (C)
