Kg. Varshney et Ah. Pandith, Synthesis and ion exchange behavior of acrylonitrile-based zirconium phosphate - A new hybrid cation exchanger, J INDIAN CH, 78(5), 2001, pp. 250-253
Acrylonitrile-based zirconium phosphate (AcZP) has been prepared as a new h
ybrid cation exchange material. Out of a large number of samples prepared,
the one selected for detailed studies has an Na+ i.e.c. equal to 2.08 meq/d
ry g. This new material has been characterized on the basis of its physicoc
hemical analysis life X-ray, IR, SEM, thermal stability, and ion exchange s
tudies. Distribution coefficient (K-d) values for various metal ions in dif
ferent solvents have been determined to explore its separation potential. T
he material shows a marked selectivity for strontium. The material may have
some applications in the removal of strontium from aqueous nuclear waste.
