Abstract
We have efficiently loaded a vapor cell magneto-optical trap from an o rthotropic source of Fr-221 with a trapping efficiency of 56(10)%. A n ovel detection scheme allowed us to measure 900 trapped atoms with a s ignal to noise ratio of similar to 60 in 1 sec. We have measured the e nergies and the hyperfine constants of the 7(2)P(1/2) and 7(2)P(3/2) s tates.
