A sim-deintercalation process from K0.58WO3 gel obtained by reducing aqueou
s potassium tungstate has been explored to prepare single-phase hexagonal p
otassium tungsten bronze (KxWO3) with various x value lower than 0.33. The
products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and energy dispersi
ve spectroscopy. The relation among phase formation, dopant content and var
ious sim-deintercalation periods was investigated. Resistivity measurements
indicate that hexagonal K0.33WO3 bronze prepared in this way shows metalli
c behavior. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
