Abstract
A multi-layered alpha-beta Si3N4 ceramic composite has been prepared succes sfully by spark plasma sintering. The effects of sintering temperature and time on the strength of the multi-layered alpha-beta Si3N4 ceramic composit e were determined. The work of fracture of the multi-layer composite is 280 0 J/m(2) for the layer thickness of 0.5 mm, and 3459 J/m(2) for the layer t hickness of 0.25 mm, respectively. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
