We consider the propagation of gravitational radiation in a magnetized mult
icomponent plasma. It is shown that large density perturbations can be gene
rated, even for small deviations from flat space, provided the cyclotron fr
equency is much larger than the plasma frequency. Furthermore, the induced
density gradients can generate frequency conversion of electromagnetic radi
ation, which may give rise to an indirect observational effect of the gravi
tational waves.
