The synthesized Schiff bases effectively protect steel in hydrogen sulfide
media. Different primary amines were used as the starting reagents to find
out how the protection effect of azomethines depends on their nature. It wa
s shown that the higher the electron-donating properties tin terms of norma
l Wepster constants sigma (H)) of substituents in benzaldehyde the better t
he inhibition of steel corrosion. IPKhAN-62, a new water-soluble mixed-type
inhibitor of hydrogen sulfide corrosion, was found to be highly effective
in corrosion tests and have considerable aftereffect.
