Sa. Kaluzhina et Iv. Kobanenko, Mechanism of local activation of copper in the presence of chloride and sulfate ions at elevated temperature and heat transfer, PROT MET R, 37(3), 2001, pp. 237-243
The influence of temperature, positive heat flux, and activating ions on th
e kinetics of the local activation of copper in berate solutions on an expe
rimental setup with a contact-heated rotating disk electrode is discussed.
It is shown that the metal resistance to local activation substantially dep
ends on the thermal conditions; their effect is comparable with that of an
activator. The possibility of describing the mechanism of local activation
in terms of currently prevalent theories of pitting initiation is analyzed.
