J. Hojo et al., Spectroscopic evaluation of nanocomposite formation from amorphous complexcompound in Si3N4-BN system, SCR MATER, 44(8-9), 2001, pp. 2169-2172
The phase separation behavior of amorphous Si3N4-BN composite powder was in
vestigated by spectroscopic methods. The powder was heat-treated in N-2 at
1200-1600 degreesC with and without Y2O3-Al2O3 sintering aid. The IR analys
is indicated that Si3N4 and BN were separated above 1400 degreesC and the c
rystallization was accelerated by the sintering aid. It was found from the
XPS analysis that BN was expelled from the inside to the surface of composi
te particles during heating. Finally; The dense nanocomposite of Si3N4-BN s
ystem was obtained by hot pressing at 1800 degreesC. (C) 2001 Acta Material
