The free convection boundary layer which forms on a heated vertical flat pl
ate of constant temperature is investigated in the vicinity of a localized
disturbance of the wall temperature. In a small region the wall is cooled i
n a prescribed manner. The short strong disturbance results in an interacti
on problem which is solved numerically. If the disturbances are sufficientl
y weak, the interaction equations can be linearised allowing for analytical
solutions. For strong disturbances, a numerical calculation of the non-lin
ear interaction problem is performed.
