Abstract
For various technical reasons cutouts like holes in thin-walled structures are often inevitable. Applied loads lead to an undesired stress concentrati on and respective strength degradation in the hole. vicinity. In order to r eattain the requested strength in practice a focal hole reinforcement is ap plied. The techniques of mathematical structural optimization have been app lied in order to determine an optimal design for the hole reinforcement.
