Abstract
Polymerase chain reaction protocols were designed specifically to amplify r egions of the alpha globin complex that contain the nine common polymorphic haplotyping sites. These reactions provided a quicker and more sensitive a pproach to determining alpha globin alpha haplotypes than Southern blotting methods.
