Simultaneous heat and mass transfer can take place in a heterogeneous mater
ial in both the continuous and the dispersed phase. Expressions for the eff
ective material properties (diffusion coefficient and thermal conductivity)
are given. Thermal diffusion (the Soret-effect) and the diffusion thermoef
fect (the Dufour-effect) are included in the model. With the result, the ef
fective heat and mass Auras can be calculated when the gradients in effecti
