Abstract
Using the pump-probe fluorescence depletion technique, we observed three ba nds resulting from a two-photon excitation of CS2 in the gas phase. Their o rigins are at the energies of 46249.43(9) cm(-1), 46257.56(9) cm(-1), and 4 6258.80(34) cm(-1), respectively. Based on symmetry arguments, the upper st ate of these bands was assigned to be the gerade electronic state coming fr om the (pi (g))(3)sigma (g) electronic configuration, which has never been observed before.
