Abstract
A compendium of human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region types has be en constructed. This updated compilation indexes over 1 0,000 population-sp ecific mtDNA nucleotide sequences in a standardized format. The sequences r epresent mtDNA types from the Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Meth ods (SWG DAM) mtDNA database and from the public literature. The SWG DAM da ta are considered to be of higher quality than the public data, particularl y for counting the number of times a particular haplotype has been observed .
