Several approaches toward the creation of an evolutionary-genetic classific
ation of sails and non-soil surface formations are discussed. This classifi
cation is considered an auxiliary component of a comprehensive genetic taxo
nomy of soils and other types of terrestrial surface formations. The full s
ystem consists of three independent components: (a) a profile-genetic class
ification based on the analysis of soil morphology, (b) a factor-based clas
sification, and (c) an evolutionary-genetic classification. Components (b)
and (c) have an auxiliary character with respect to the main profile-geneti
c component of soil taxonomy.
