Abstract
To obtain maximum benefit from the implementation of industrial robots, it is necessary to identify specific ergonomics problems and provide answers t o such problems. Special features of a typical industrial robot are describ ed. Specific ergonomics problems are identified and discussed: sociopsychol ogical factors, systems safety design, communications, training, and workpl ace design. For the successful implementation of industrial robots, managem ent should take timely action with regard to advanced planning procedures, user involvement plans, communication channels, company labor policies, and continuous training programs. The technological change from conventional t o advanced manufacturing, such as industrial robots, must be jointly suppor ted by all levels of management and workers. (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, In c.
