Dibenzyldiaza-18-crown-6 has been used as a highly efficient and selective
carrier for uphill transport of silver ion through a chloroform bulk liquid
membrane, in the presence of picrate ion as a suitable counter anion. The
selectivity and efficiency of Ag+ transport from aqueous solutions containi
ng other cations such as Tl+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Fe2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2
+, Pb2+, Hg2+ and Cr3+ have been investigated. The liquid membrane system i
s used for the recovery of silver ion from a developed radiological firm an
d a silver solder sample.
