The onset of thermosolutal convection due to thermal diffusion in a fluid s
aturated isotropic porous layer, subject to a gravity gradient is investiga
ted using the Galerkin technique. Results reveal that the Soret parameter a
ffects the pattern of convection only when its magnitude is large, both in
