Abstract
In this paper, a theory about the elastic deformation in icosahedral cluste rs was proposed. We have obtained the analytical expression of the elastic deformation distribution in icosahedral clusters, which is in good agreemen t with the results of numerical simulation. Both our theory and the results of numerical simulation indicate that the icosahedral clusters are not uni formly deformed, the bond length increases moving from center to surface.
