Abstract
The spectral linewidth of continuously wavelength tunable laser diodes has been significantly reduced by the buried facets technique. Embedd ing the lambda(g) = 1.3 mu m InGaAsP tuning region of a lambda = 1.55 mu m tunable twin-guide distributed feedback laser entirely in high-ba ndgap InP suppresses the electronic Vf noise by more than 10dB, yieldi ng a spectral linewidth up to a factor of two smaller during tuning.
