Abstract
Very low wavelength chirp (static < 0.07GHz/mA and dynamic < 0.09GHz/m A) was measured for a directly-modulated fibre rating laser with an an gled facet semiconductor chip and a short fibre grating. Low-penalty t ransmission at 2.5Gbit/s over 312km of standard singlemode fibre has b een demonstrated using this low-chirp device.
