The heat capacity of the perovskite BaUO3 has been measured by using a diff
erential scanning calorimeter (DSC) in the temperature range of 373-873 K.
The results were consistent with the values calculated by Neumann-Kopp's la
w. By comparison with the C-p values estimated from the Debye temperature,
it appears that the Schottky term contributes to the heat capacity of BaUO3
. Enthalpy increment, entropy, free energy function and other thermodynamic
functions of BaUO3 as a function of temperature have been calculated from
the measured heat capacity and the published data. From the derived molar G
ibbs energy, the equilibrium oxygen pressure has also been calculated for t
he reaction BaUO3/BaUO4. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
