lThe stability of YB2 in air was studied by high temperature X-ray powder d
iffraction at 293-1273 K. It is shown that the oxidation process begins at
673 K, but is still slow from 673 to 1073 K. Above 1073 K the compound YB2
has almost completely been oxidized. The electronic-specific heat of YB, ha
s been measured between 5.8 and 50 K. The electronic-specific heat coeffici
ent is 2.65 mJ K-2 mol(-1) which is close to the theoretical value previous
ly reported. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
