PC-BASED REAL-TIME ACTIVE SONAR SIMULATOR

To provide the data needed for testing sonar signal processing schemes , it is desirable to simulate the sonar environment and the received s ignals. The paper gives a description of a simulator developed for thi s purpose (Mansour er al., 1995). The simulator runs on a personal com puter, which makes it an attractive alternative to more expensive mach ines, both for system evaluation and for training purposes. It consist s of two parts, the environmental part (consisting of the target, reve rberation and propagation models) and the system part (providing appro priate signal processing functions). simulator employs a novel target echo model.
