Abstract
This Paper focuses on the recommendations of the report of the Standin g Advisory Committee on Trunk Road Assessment (SACTRA), Assessing the environmental impact of road schemes1 that require changes in current practice in the design process and consequently in project management, for trunk road schemes. A brief review is given of the recommendation s which most bear on the management of the design process. The nature of management of the process is discussed, and conclusions are drawn a bout prospects for improvement of the process and of projects, and the ir acceptability.
