Magmatic molten matters are shown to emerge From the subsurface of pol
ycrystalline Pd kept at 500-700 degrees C, under the bombardment of sh
owing deuterium ions. As in volcanic eruption, surface craters serve a
s the channels for their outflow. To account for this anomalous surfac
e event, it must be hypothesized that implanted deuterium ions dramati
cally reduce the melting point in subsurface or increase the subsurfac
e temperature close to the melting point of Pd. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scie
