Abstract
Lack of appreciation of ground conditions is now the largest area of t echnical risk in civil engineering and building projects. Despite this , consulting engineers and their clients are still loath to spend anyt hing like the recommended percentage of project costs on site investig ation. Unfortunately, matters are unlikely to improve while site inves tigation continues to account for less than 1% of teaching time on alr eady jam-packed curricula of engineering degree courses. This paper in troduces an innovative, interactive computer-aided learning package wh ich could dramatically raise awareness of site investigation among you ng engineers without the need for more teaching resources. What's more , it's fun.
