Abstract
Tubulointerstitial alterations are a hallmark of most renal diseases. In vi tro culture of different cell types of the tubulointerstitial compartment h ave been instrumental in studying their respective contributions to the inf lammatory and fibrotic process. The present paper provides an overview of t he isolation, culture and characterization of tubular epithelial cells, wit h a main emphasis on cells from human origin.
