KY(WO4)(2) single crystals are studied for their civilian applications as l
aser host materials. In order to determinate the best growth conditions and
their reproducibility, the investigation of the K2O-Y2O3-WO3 ternary syste
m was undertaken. It was shown that the compound is not stoichiometric: its
stability domain and crystallization field were defined through the study
of three isoplethic sections. The preparation of single crystals was perfor
med by a null method. Their composition depends on the flux one; therefore,
these differences do not alter the structure and the spectroscopic propert
ies.
