Abstract
. Evidence is increasing that neurorehabilitation lessens patient disabilit y and improves quality of life in both acute and chronic neurological condi tions. . A focused, multidisciplinary team approach is the key to a successful reh abilitation outcome. . The general practitioner will be more closely involved in the rehabilitat ion process in the future. Patients will be discharged home earlier to comp lete the acute rehabilitation program. GPs will supervise function over the long term and activate community rehabilitation resources when necessary t o maintain patient function. . Ideally, rehabilitation services should be available for most patients wi th neurological disorders, as it is difficult to predict which individual p atients will not benefit.
