L. Omelka et al., Radical products in the chemical oxidation of amines. An ESR study of secondary cation radicals from aniline and derivatives of 1,2-phenylenediamine, MONATS CHEM, 132(5), 2001, pp. 597-606
The oxidation of aniline and some derivatives of 1,2-phenylenediamine was p
erformed by the system Pb((CHCOO)-C-3)(4)-CF3COOH-CH2Cl2. An ESR investigat
ion of the oxidized aniline confirmed the presence of secondary cation radi
cal. Its structure was determined by comparison of its ESR spectrum with th
ose of cation radicals prepared from derivatives of 1,4-phenylenediamine. T
he oxidation of 1,2-phenylenediamine and its derivatives leads to the forma
tion of either primary or secondary cation radicals, the latter having the
character of substituted dihydrophenazinium cation radicals.
