An overview of the activities in progress of the Russian Heavy-Ion Fusion E
nergy community is given for the period since the last Symposium in Heidelb
erg in 1997. The progress in up-grading of the ITEP accelerator complex (pr
oject ITEP-TWAC), target simulations and recent results on heavy ion beam-p
