Numerical investigation of targets for ion driver energy similar to 100 kJ: Some effects of ion stopping and energy deposition in cold and plasma targets
E. Vasina et al., Numerical investigation of targets for ion driver energy similar to 100 kJ: Some effects of ion stopping and energy deposition in cold and plasma targets, NUCL INST A, 464(1-3), 2001, pp. 52-60
Target behavior under the impact of similar to 100 kJ 20 200 ns ion pulses
is investigated. Beam parameters are close to the expected parameters of TW
AC-ITEP and SIS upgrade accelerators. The influence of spot size and shape
on inner region compression is studied for carbon, gold, gold + DT, etc. cy
lindrical targets. Hydro and thermal properties of targets are investigated
for different pulse shapes and durations. The numerical results on modelin
g of possible experiments on TWAC-ITEP and SIS + Phelix facilities are disc
ussed. Fundamental properties of beam-matter interaction, such as total ion
stopping range and energy deposition, strongly affect target behavior unde
r the impact of ion beams. These effects are discussed in the report. (C) 2
