Abstract
Using a two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulation model, we present optimized design for a number of heavy-ion-matter interaction experiments that will be performed at the upgraded GST Darmstadt accelerator facility. Our simula tions show that using suitable beam-target configurations, one should be ab le to create samples of high-energy-density matter that could be used to in vestigate the equation-of-state properties of matter under such extreme con ditions. Moreover, it has been shown that by imploding multi-layered cylind rical targets using the upgraded GSI beam, one may be able to create metall ic hydrogen. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B,V.
