Abstract
We investigate the converted optical signal-to-noise ratio, intersymbol int erference, and bit-error-rate performance of all-optical wavelength convert er based on four-wave mixing in semiconductor optical amplifiers as functio ns of the input pump and signal powers. The minimum power penalty less than 1 dB is achieved by optimizing the input signal and pump power. III additi on, two approaches to expand the dynamic range of input signal power have b een presented with the resulting dynamic ranges of more than 25 and 12 dB r espectively and both show good tolerance to variations in input signal powe r, (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
