The kinetics of the ethylbenzene reaction with ozone in an acetic acid medi
um were studied. Ozone was shown to react with ethylbenzene mainly at the a
romatic ring to yield oligomeric ozonides. Of the sidechain oxidation produ
cts(18.1%), 1-phenylethanol, 1-phenylethanol acetate, and acetophenone were
identified. The chain mechanism of ozone consumption was revealed.
