The magnetic susceptibility chi, heat capacity, and electrical resistivity
rho under pressure have been measured on La3Ni2O7 and La4Ni3O10. Heat-capac
ity measurements reveal electronic heat-capacity coefficients with magnitud
es comparable to those of common metals. A weak feature in rho and chi appe
ars in both samples near T(c)approximate to 130 K, which could result from
either a charge-transfer gap or charge-density wave (CDW). Pressure decreas
es rho, and drives T-c down at rates of -10.7 and -6.9 K/GPa for La3Ni2O7 a
nd La4Ni3O10, respectively. The results suggest that the CDW picture be giv
en more serious consideration.
