We present results from inverse photoemission spectroscopy in the isochroma
t mode, with angular resolution, from a clean Au(113) surface. To identify
the origin of the different resonances, we have performed a first-principle
s calculation of the bulk band structure in the linear-muffin-tin-orbital f
ormalism. We predict the dispersion of the bulk features, as a function of
parallel momentum, considering energy and momentum conservation. We have be
en able to identify unambiguously two surface resonances and a surface stat
e in the [(1) over bar 10] and [33 (2) over bar] directions, respectively,
as well as various bulk-derived features.
