Abstract
The approaches to characterizing the surface topography of a rock joint can be simply grouped into statistical approaches and fractal geometrical appr oaches. This paper reviews the developments in characterization of the surf ace topography of a rock joint. Moreover, several problems of the current r esearches are also discussed.
