Abstract
The modelling of softwood to hardwood grade transitions is described in a c ontinuous pulp digester. Validation with industrial data is presented. A mo del-based control strategy is introduced to minimize the production of off- specification or "twilight" pulp, and the results are compared to conventio nal manual control strategies.
