Abstract
The intercalation compounds of aluminium hydroxide [LiAl2(OH)(6)][NH2C6H4CO O]. nH(2)O containing aminobenzoic anions are synthesized for the first tim e. When heated in air, the intercalate containing m-aminobenzoic acid anion s undergoes polymerization in the interlayer space, resulting in the format ion of polymeric macromolecules. The product is investigated by means of XR D. IR and Raman methods, ESR and optical spectroscopy. A polymerization mec hanism is proposed that includes the diffusion of oxygen molecules through the system of micropores in the interlayer space of the intercalate into th e contact region of two anions, oxidation of anions and the formation of ma cromolecules. The character of the orientation of macromolecules in the int erlayer space of polymerization product is considered. (C) 2001 Elsevier Sc ience B.V. All rights reserved.
