Abstract
A possible first step in a signal based system identification procedure is
a nonlinearity test. The result can be used to decide whether or not simple
linear models are sufficient to describe the observed dynamics. It determi
nes if modal analysis or other methods that assume linear system behaviour
yield valid results. After a brief overview two tests are discussed in deta
il and results of an application to test systems are given.
