Capillary electrophoresis, liquid chromatography, potentiometry and UV-visi
ble spectrophotometry are frequently used for determination of pK(a) values
of substances. In this work, we have compared the application of the diffe
rent techniques to the determination of pK(a) values of a series of zwitter
ionic quinolones in acetonitrile-water mixtures, emphasizing the advantages
of capillary electrophoresis for the determination of equilibrium constant
s of widely used drugs in aqueous and organic media. (C) 2001 Elsevier Scie
