Abstract
Recovery and germination of seeds of Vicia hirsuta (L.) S. F. Gray aft er 10 weeks or 5 months, respectively, in a compost heap of farmyard m anure were tested in two experiments. Between 10 and 30% of the seeds were found again. 0-5% of the seeds germinated spontaneously, but more than 90% after scarification. To avoid weed seed dispersal, a careful composting of manure is recommended.
