W. Sato-okoshi et M. Takatsuka, Polydora and related genera (Polychaeta, Spionidae) around Puerto Montt and Chiloe Island (Chile), with description of a new species of Dipolydora, B MARIN SCI, 68(3), 2001, pp. 485-503
A total of seven species of spionid polychaetes including one new species D
ipolydora huelma were found from Puerto Montt and Chiloe Island (Chile). Po
lydora cf. rickettsi, Dipolydora huelma sp. nov. and D. giardi were extract
ed from self-excavated burrows in calcareous substrata: mollusc shells and
coralline alga. Dipolydora socialis. Boccardia wellingtonensis. B. chilensi
s and B. tricuspa were found from mud sand and sandstone intertidal flats.
Boccardia wellingtonensis was re-examined, and Chilean specimens of B. poly
branchia were re-examined and suggested that they may belong to B. wellingt
onensis. Morphological variation, habitat, boring and crawling activity, ec
ology, reproduction and development, and burrow structure of each species i
s described and discussed.
