Rutile tatania powders were synthesized in aqueous solutions, avoiding the
appearance of TiO2 in anatase form, by heterogeneous nucleation methods wit
h SnCl2. 2H(2)O(method A) and SnCl4. 5H(2)O (method B) as the raw materials
respectively. The effects of nuclei and peptizing conditions on the struct
ures of products were investigated, The mechanisms of nucleation were studi
ed by comparing the results of the two different raw materials. The content
of SnO2 in the samples with a full rutile structure was 10% and 8% (molar
fraction) for the two methods respectively.
