Questionnaires were sent to 118 previous holders of demonstrator posts in a
natomy at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, in order to determ
ine the role of these posts in the medical profession. Sixty-three (94%) of
the respondents had postgraduate medical qualifications. Forty-four (66%)
of the respondents were surgeons, and 23 (34%) were in nonsurgical fields.
Thirty-eight (57%) had jobs that involved teaching. Almost all the responde
nts found the teaching experience useful in their careers and especially th
ose respondents who had qualified in surgical specialties rated their exper
ience reviewing anatomy very highly. The usefulness of this posting is disc
